Glycosaminoglycans
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are a type of a large polysaccharide that have an imperative biological function in skin functions and especially in skin moisture. These substances occur in the body and they play a major role in the connective tissues like cartilage skin and other connective structures.
BENIFITS :
Current trends in the manufacture of cosmeceuticals have found glycosaminoglycans as the most useful ingredients because of their prowess as emulsifying agents and water holding capacity. However, some of the commonly used GAGs among cosmetics are hyaluronic acid, which is normally used in anti-aging products due to its high efficiency in erasing fine lines and wrinkles. It can contain a lot of water in them and thereby keep the skin moisturized and elastic. Moreover, GAGs attach to the skin cells and tissues by fulfilling the purpose of maintaining integrity of the extracellular matrix in which they are embedded. Besides its relaxing attributes that result in anti-inflammatory provisions, GAGs enhance the skin’s healthy conditions.
SKIN TYPES :
Glycosaminoglycans are beneficial for every skin type; particularly those wanting to hydrate skin and reduce signs of aging.
